About This Site
This is the personal website of an individual (Japanese-made, 1963 model), featuring images of sculptural works, including objects, dioramas, models, and other creations.
The dioramas based on traditional Japanese townscapes depict scenes from the Kanto region, set from the late Meiji period through the Taisho period and into the early Showa period—in other words, roughly the beginning of the 20th century. They reconstruct, in a miniature garden-like form, Japanese townscapes and landscapes that have long since disappeared.
The site also features other works, including the “Imaginary Architecture” series, a collection of objects created primarily as an exercise in sculptural play and experimentation.
The railway models and tracks that appear in some of the works are used simply as part of the scenery, as background elements within the overall composition. However, all of the tracks are fully functional, and the model trains can actually be run on them.
I once collected a small number of HO-scale (1:80) model railway vehicles. Even now, however, I have very little knowledge about railway vehicles and, to be honest, I am not a particularly dedicated railway enthusiast or model railway enthusiast.
That said, I have always liked landscapes with railways in them.
For the techniques used to create the models featured here, I have, in the past, referred to specialist model railway magazines, including TMS (Tetsudo Mokei Shumi), as well as information available on the Internet.

In 2008, launched the website “Solid Drawings,” featuring his original diorama and object works. He adopted the pen name Hiroshi Yamao(山尾 比呂士) for his personal creative activities.
His diorama works focus primarily on scenes of Japan from the Meiji, Taisho, and early Showa periods (approximately the early 20th century). He has received awards four times in the TMS Layout Competition, organized by Tetsudo Mokei Shumi (TMS), a Japanese railway modeling magazine. On each occasion, his work was featured in a photographic article in the magazine.
Around 2011–2012, he began creating the “Imaginary Architecture Series,” a body of three-dimensional artworks inspired by architectural forms.
In July 2016, held his first exhibition of diorama and object works at Sakatsu Gallery in Sugamo, Tokyo.
Since March 2018, he has been selling his original diorama works through the same gallery.
